For Nelis, a faith-based parent, the decision to enroll her daughter Julieta in the Choir School of Hartford came from a brochure.
“We’re a very faith-based family… the spiritual component mixed with music drew me in.”
Nelis, Parent of Chorister
What started with a little hesitation soon blossomed into joy. Julieta was nervous at first, would she have to sing solos? Was it too big of a commitment? But she rose to every challenge, developing confidence that’s stayed with her in every aspect of life.
“When she pulls through at the end, it’s one of those learning moments, ‘I have a lot of courage.’”
Nelis praises the Choir School of Hartford model of mentorship:
“Older children mentor the younger ones, helping them learn their notes, put on their vestments, or find their confidence. It’s beautiful to watch.”
But most of all, she emphasizes the community.
“This program is safe, nurturing, and welcoming… families take care of each other. It’s truly a loving environment.”
