Churches in our diocese encouraged young choristers to attend a one week “Choir Camp” in a State Park.
I attended for three years after grades 6, 7 and 8. It was run by music educators affiliated with the Royal School
of Church Music. I still cherish the purple ribbon from my last year. The highlight of the week was to do a
complete service of Evensong at a church not far from the Park. That was the foundation for singing in High
School Chorus, Freshman Glee Club in college, church choirs wherever I attended, an audition-only choir
connected with the Hartt School, and two a cappella choirs now that I am retired. The summer camp was a
gift of life long participation and enjoyment.
